Constitution

Article I – Name of Organization
A. The name of this organization shall be: Winona State University Criminal Justice Club.

Article II – Purpose
A. To provide students with out of classroom hands on experience within the Criminal Justice System.
B. To enhance ties to the community through volunteer work for students interested in criminal justice.
C. To provide opportunities to engage with professionals in the criminal justice system through guest speakers, correctional facility visits and other beneficial hands on activities.
D. To provide employment opportunities and information about employment for future Winona State University graduates.


Article III – Membership
A. Membership requirements will be non-discriminatory and all persons will be treated in a fair and equitable manner in accordance with Minnesota Statute 363.
a. Specific Membership Requirement
i. Must be a currently enrolled Winona Sate University student or Faculty member.
ii. Must present a positive attitude towards other participants and faculty during all Criminal Justice Club activities.
b. Rules for Expulsion
i. If at any moment you put yourself or others in danger present any disrespect towards other members you may be asked to leave the criminal justice club upon vote of the officers. **Note: Only used for extreme cases.


Article IV – Officers
A. Leadership nomination requirements will be non-discriminatory and all persons will be treated in a fair and equitable manner in accordance with Minnesota Statute 363.
B. The officers for the WSU Criminal Justice club are as follows: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Webmaster.
C. The duties of the officers are as follows:
a. President
i. To lead the Criminal Justice Club towards achieving its goals.
ii. To preside over meetings
iii. Discretion to create committees.
iv. To be readily available to contact if needed.
b. Vice President
i. To aide the President in achieving the goals of the club.
ii. To preside over meetings in the absence of the President.
c. Secretary
i. T record the minutes of the meetings and make them available to all members
ii. To carry on public relations
d. Treasurer
i. To manage club funds
ii. To organize fundraising opportunities.
D. All officers shall make a great effort to attend all meetings and activities and should only be excused for good reasons.
E. If there is a need for an excused absence, the highest ranking official that can be notified should be notified in a timely matter.
F. Procedure for removal is as follows: A member, excluding the President and Vice President, must nominate another member for removal. Within a time period of at least one week and no more than one month a majority of the active members will vote on the removal. In the event that a vacancy occurs between elections, a majority vote of nominees with fill the vacancy.

Article V – Meetings
A. The meetings for the WSU Criminal Justice club will occur at least biweekly, but also may occur weekly at the discretion of the officers.
B. Officers shall meet at their own discretion.

Article VI – Funding
A. No dues will be charged.
B. The treasurer will be in charge of handling the budget.
C. The account for the Criminal Justice Club will be through the WSU Business Office.
D. All funds will be kept in the account in the WSU Business office.
E. In the event of organization dissolution all appropriated funds will be returned to the Student Senate Activity Fund Reserve.

Article VII – Amendment
A. A concern is brought before the entire Criminal Justice Club
a. A motion will be made by anyone for this concern to be reviewed by the executive board. If this motion is then seconded, it will move on to the executive board.
B. The officers will discuss the concern and draft a modification
a. The modification can only:
i. Add words
ii. Strike words
iii. Replace words
C. The modification will then be brought before the club for a majority vote. The modification must receive a 2/3 approval in order to pass.
D. If there is a majority vote for approval, the amended constitution will then go before the WSU Student Senate for ratification.
E. The Criminal Justice Club Constitution must be resubmitted for ratification to the WSU Student Senate at least every two years.

Article VIII – Advisor
A. Paul Munson is the faculty advisor for the WSU Criminal Justice Club.
B. Advisor Duties:
a. Attend club meetings when available
b. Maintain regular contact with the club and its officers
