Tryouts

Tryouts for the 2010-2011 season of the WSU Dance Team will be on Friday, April 16th through Sunday, April 18th.

Friday we will meet in the hallway of Memorial by McGown Gym at 5pm. We will preview the weekend and the rest of the time will be spent learning two short routines (one jazz and one hip hop/funk) and we will also learn our fight song. All of these will be used as part of your tryout on Sunday.

We will meet Sunday morning for the actual tryout around 9am and will continue until the last group has completed their tryout. You will tryout in pairs in front of 5 judges. You will be asked to perform the jazz routine twice (with a break in between), the hip hop routine, the fight song once, and the following skills: double or triple turns, fouettes, splits on both sides, right and left leaps, a russian/toe touch, and any other skill of your choice (there will be time to work on any skills you need help with on Saturday).

For Try-Outs you will need:
$5.00 audition fee, water bottle, dance attire, dance shoes of your choice, blank CD (for practice songs)

The results will be posted immediately after the judging and tallying are completed.

If you need a place to stay during the tryouts, we can arrange for you to stay with girls from last year’s team, however please let us know as soon as possible. If you are staying with someone please bring a sleeping bag with you. For those who are unable to make tryouts, it is possible to send in a video, although we do recommend attending tryouts! If you would like more information on sending a video please contact one of the captains at the email address listed below.

If sending a video please include the skills listed above and a solo performance including jazz and hip hop.

Committment

All girls trying out need to understand the amount of time it takes to be a part of the Winona State Dance Team. We practice 4 days a week for 3 hours, with additional practices likely to be added. Our performances include: 5 football games in the Fall, at least 3 competitions in the winter in which we compete with a jazz and hip hop routine, and also perform at all home basketball games in November-Febuary. Our performance in school is also a vital part of our team. Each of us is required to keep at least a 2.0 GPA. It takes dedication to the team to uphold good grades, practice, and work if you so choose. Please take this into consideration when trying out.

Hope to see you there!
