Hail, Snow, Sleet, Rain—
On point, en garde, we will remain!
Rain, Sleet, Snow, Hail—
The fencing club shall still prevail!

The Winona State Fencing Club is open to all!

"The great mistake is to anticipate the outcome of the engagement; you ought not to be thinking of whether it ends in victory or defeat.Let nature take its course, and your tools will strike at the right moment."

While fencing is perhaps not the most well-known sport of the great Midwest, it has a long and fascinating history. It evolved out of rapier combat in the 16th century and is generally assumed to have originated in Spain--though our modern form owes a lot to the French. This and more information is available at (link to the left), but you can get to know fencing best by participating!

We are a group of amateur fencers, who enjoy getting together for practice and comraderie. Our group meets twice a week: 7-9pm Tuesdays and Thursdays at Winona State University's Talbot Gym.  We currently promote and work with foil and saber fencers and encourage people with various skills to join in the fun. We also work with épée. As a club we also open our meetings to the surrounding community so fencers of all ages can learn and continue to enjoy the sport of fencing. Recently, we had a meet with St. Mary's, and a few of the images are available on our photo page.
