Official Constitution
I. Name: The
name of this organization shall be Fighting For Our Rights
and Gender Equality. The organization may use the acronym FORGE
for its name.
II. Purpose: The
purpose of FORGE shall be as follows:
A) To act as a safe forum to speak about gender issues on campus,
in the community, and around the world.
B) To educate the Winona State University students and personnel
about gender issues.
C) To make known any gender issues on campus.
D) To help the fight towards equality for all people in the cases of,
but not limited to, gender, race, class, sexual orientation, and
age.
E) To recognize and support those people who have made changes
in society despite their oppressive backgrounds.
F) To act as a student leadership group for the Women's Studies
program.
G) To create unity between students and faculty in the Women's
Studies program.
III. Membership:
A) Membership shall be open to all students, faculty and staff at
Winona State University. Membership will also be open to
members of the community who are interested in the purposes
stated in the aforementioned section. FORGE will no restrict
membership to people on the basis of sex, race, religion, national
origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, physical ability or
mental ability.
B) Members can be expelled for the following reasons:
1. Harassment or abuse of other members, whether the abuse be
verbal, physical or sexual.
2. Any action deemed by the members, as a whole, as posing a
threat to or destroying group dynamics.
C) Members may be expelled only after a fellow member files a
grievance with the Advisory Council. The Advisory Council must
then meet with the FORGE advisor about said grievance. The
Council and the advisor must unanimously decide to expel
member before any other action on this matter is taken.
IV. Advisory Council:
The administrative body of FORGE shall be a
self-appointed Advisory Council. The members of this Council
shall not be elected; instead, each individual member can choose
if s/he would like to be part of the Council. A member of the
Advisory Council can choose at will when s/he would like to begin
and end his/her time with the Council. The Advisory Council shall
hold more decision-making power than the general membership.
This means that at Advisory Council meetings, decisions about
activities and projects will be made so they can be worked on
before the next FORGE meeting.
V. Meetings:
A) Meetings shall take place at least once a month at a time and
place convenient for the majority of the members.
B) Additional meetings may be called by any member for the
planning of special projects or social events.
C) A set number of the membership is not needed for a voting
quorum.
VI. Finances:
A) There will be no dues charged to members of this club.
B) The Advisory Council will be responsible for keeping track of the
budget.
C) Funds will be held in an account with the WSU business office.
D) In the even of the dissolution of FORGE, all funds will be returned
to the Student Activities Fund Committee of Student Senate.
VII. Committees: Committees will be established as members see fit.
VIII. Amendments:
A) This constitution may be amended when a current FORGE member
sees fit.
B) Any amendment must be passed by a 2/3 majority vote of all
members present at said FORGE meeting. Announcement of the
amendment vote must be made at the meeting prior to the voting.
IV. Ratification of the
constitution by the membership:
Constitution must be passed by a 2/3 majority vote of the FORGE
members present to be ratified.
V. Advisor: The advisor of this club shall be Tamara Berg.
VI. Non-discrimination
statement:
Membership requirements will not violate Minnesota Statute 363
and will not be based on: race, sex, creed, religion, national origin,
sexual/affectional orientation, political philosophy, level of physical
or mental ability, or any other personal characteristics.
