The meeting started at 6:05 pm
Both Co-Presidents, the vice president, and the secretary were present.
Dr. Jarvinen talked about the national MAA Student mathematics competition (Putnam) coming up on December 3rd. There are prizes and recognition for teams who do well. If you are interested in competing, contact Dr. Jarvinen. There will also be a local competition (October 23rd? November 12th?). If you are interested in that one, contact Dr. Anderson. If you are interested in joining MAA contact Dr. Jarvinen or you can check out the website www.maa.org.
There will be a Pi Mu Epsilon conference November 3rd and 4th at St. Norbert College. If you are interested in going or giving a talk, contact Dr. Peratt.
Dr. Malone is bringing a group of 7 students up to the U of M on Friday for Biostat. He has a van right now. If you would like to go and haven’t signed up yes let him know by noon tomorrow (Tuesday 10/4). Transportation is flexible if there is a lot of interest.
On Monday October 17th we will be having a speaker from U of N-Omaha talking about grad school. If you are interested in grad school there will be a lot of good info. It will start at 4:00pm in GI 161.
After the speaker on the 17th we will be having a pizza party at godfathers. We will be there to eat at about 5:00 or 5:30, whenever the speaker gets out. It will either be free of very cheap. Math/Stat club approved paying for half of the pizza.
Future activity idea: Numb3rs night
We will be doing laser tag on Thursday – October 20th. We will send out an e-mail with prices and times and other such info.
Viterbo University will be putting on the play “Proof”, which the new movie is based on and we are going there as a club. It will cost about $7-9 depending on how many people go, we will each have to pay for ourselves. The performances are Nov. 10-12, 17-19 at 7:30pm (except on Sundays its earlier afternoon). We will probably leave Winona about 6:30ish. We will send out an e-mail with a more definite date. The sign-up will be in the math/stat office.
T-shirts! We will be re-ordering the polo shirts from last year with the professional logo, but we will have them in purple this time (maybe different colors as well?). Our new shirt for the year will be brown with cream pictures/font. It will have a picture of Gildemeister on the front and say “3rd floor Gildemeister” above the picture and “WSU Math/Stat Club” below. On the back of the shirts there will be a quote that says “There are 3 types of people in this world – those who can count and those who can’t.” We will put sign-up sheets in the math/stat office and send out an e-mail with prices soon.
Amanda Lamers has been named as our new treasurer! Let’s hope she keeps track of ALL that money well. J
Amanda and Chelsie will be updating bulletin board, so it will be all pretty-like!
Dr. Malone has been voted e-Professor of the year, so if you see him, you should e-congratulate him.
Our next meeting is Monday, November 7th at 6:00pm in GI 327 – see you all there!
