Math/Stat Club Meeting

Meeting started at 6:07 pm (18:07)

All Officers present

We started by discussing possible meeting times for next semester.  We decided to discuss that at a later time in the meeting.

The Fudge Off was next on the agenda.  There was discussion on the possibility of sending some of the funds to charity (possibly a charity regarding the Katrina victims).  We went on to talk about who would sit at the table for the fudge off.  It was a group consensus that having classes on the Thursday and Friday at the beginning of the semester is a very dumb idea.  A decision was made by a “raise of the hands” vote that a quarter to compare the two pieces of fudge would be adequate.  The location for the fudge off would be the lower level of Kryzko.  A discussion was then launched to decide at what times we would hold the noble “fudge off”.  The conclusion that 1-3 on Tuesday the 18th of January, 4:30-6:30 on Wednesday the 19th and 1-3 on Thursday the 20th would be the best times to do the fudge off to reach a maximum amount of people was made.  This was followed by a discussion on the possible ways to graph the results and inform the public about the results.  No formal conclusion was reached on that matter.

For assessment day we need to spend the $1000 dollars senate gave to us or else we will not get money next year so we made a list of possible options which included:

  • Going to the science museum in the cities for the calculus exhibit
  • Visiting grad schools for the “older” members
  • Sledding for people who will be taking the assessment

It is possible to take a trip and do something for the people taking the assessment as well.  As a group we could not come to a definite conclusion if assessment day was on February 8th or the 15th.

No activity for December due to the planning for the fudge off.  I’m going to be totally honest in saying that I didn’t really catch the next part but sometime in March we want to go either ice skating or roller skating depending on the weather.

A day still needs to be picked for the picnic and a decision needs to be made on whether we should do it inside or outside so keep thinking about it.  Usually it is the week before finals or the week before that.  Help is needed in the planning of the picnic, getting food for it and setting the picnic up.  Keep thinking about it.

Everybody should think about shirt ideas for next semester so we can have the shirts by spring break.

We will have speakers again and a list will be made by next meeting so be prepared to be listified by the list of speakers.

Now for what you’ve all been waiting for… the meeting time for January will be 6:45 on Wednesday the 18th in Gildemeister 327.  This is so the Fudge Off people can attend the meeting as well.

Erin made the announcement that if you get an email from Dr. Peratt saying that you qualify for Pi Mu Epsilon you are considered a member even though you will not be inducted until the spring.  So feel free to place membership on any applications if you qualify.

Sadly there were no jokes.

The meeting ended at 6:34 pm (18:34).
