CONSTITUTION FOR “NEPALI CLUB”

 

Name:

 

The name of this organization shall be “Nepali Club”

Purpose:

 

A.   Club Purpose I:

 

To celebrate few of the numerous festivals in Nepal

B.  Club Purpose II:

 

To introduce a culture that is not yet familiarized among the American culture and society

C.  Club Purpose III:

 

To share the culture of Nepal , educate, and bring a part of it to USA

Membership:

 

A.  Requirements for membership:

  • There are no requirements as such
  • Everyone is welcome to join the club. No one needs to be a Nepali to become a member.
  • Membership requirements will be non-discriminatory and all persons will be treated in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Leadership nomination requirements will be non-discriminatory and all persons will be treated in a fair and equitable manner.

B.   Requirements for meetings, tasks, etc.

  • Need to attend meeting at least once a month
  • Everyone should be an active member
  • Every member should be responsible for their tasks during and after meetings.

C.  A non-discrimination statement:

 

“Membership requirements will not violate Minnesota Statue 363 and will not be based on: race, sex, creed, religion, national origin, sexual/affectional orientation, political philosophy, level of physical or mental ability, or any other personal characteristics.”

D.  Expulsion

  • Misbehavior to other member, or anyone else
  • Avoiding team-work
  • Does not attend three consecutive club meetings

Executive Board/Advisory Council/Officers, etc.:

 

A.  Leadership positions of the club.

  1. Director - Overlooks the club, advices if necessary
  2. President - Runs the club; comes up with events to keep the club active
  3. Vice President - Helps the president run the club
  4. Treasurer - Keeps track of the funds
  5. Secretary - Keeps everyone informed
  6. Cultural Organizer - Organizes cultural gimmicks
  7. Advisor - Advices the club on the aspect it can be
  8. Foreign Delegate - Helps comfort non-native members and visitors
  9. Ad Hoc Manager - Manages events that come up in haste
  10. Webmaster - Manages the website for the club

B.  Procedure for election:

  1. Elections will be held every academic year .
  2. He/She has to be an active member for at least a semester
  3. The position shall be opened to the committee members first
  4. If the position isn't filled by the active committee members, it will be opened to other members who have been attending meetings.
  5. We highly encourage the club to strive to have someone who is a native of Nepal to be the President and Vice President of the club . We believe that if the club is of the country, the head representatives should be from that particular country, if not the club might collapse.
  6. We come from a peace loving and hospitable country. We welcome anyone who is willing to contribute and share their culture with us. We will not exclude or stop anyone who is willing to join.
  7. We will also adhere to any rules and regulations that the Minnesota has towards non-discrimination.

Meetings:

 

A.  The meetings will occur every three months.

B.  A meeting will be held every October 1 st i.e. before our major festival, Dashain, which will be the center of our club. We'll use it to share culture, and educate at the same time.

Funding:

 

A.  The treasurer will be responsible to keep track of the budget.

B.  “Funds will be held in an account in the WSU Business Office.”

C.  “In the event of the dissolution of the club, all funds will be returned to the Student Activities Fund Committee of Student Senate for re-appropriation.”

A.  Fund Raising Committee

Advisor:

 

A.  Name of the faculty/staff advisor

 

Michael Bowler, Instructor, Global Studies Department

B.  State the following Advisor Duties:

  1. Professor Bowler will attend regular club meetings
  2. He will maintain contact with club members
  3. He will be able to track the club budget
  4. He will maintain current contact information with WSU Student Senate.

Amendments:

 

A.  The amended constitution will go before the WSU Student Senate for ratification.

B.  The Nepali Club Constitution must be resubmitted for ratification to the WSU Student Senate at least every two years.
