What the WSUWaterski team does is practice, fundraise and compete against other collegiate teams. Your level of ability DOES NOT matter! Whether you have been skiing/boarding your whole life or have never even stepped foot in a boat it makes no difference. We will work with everybody to help you learn or to improve your ability level. Those who are comfortable with competing can do so, and those who aren't are still able to practice with the team (you are still part of the team, even if you aren't competing). Everyone is also encouraged to attend competitions to support team members that are competing.
We will have the opportunity to compete in wakeboarding (trick), slalom, distance jump, barefooting, and if there is interest, I can look into getting signed up for knee-boarding tourneys.
Since we are a club, it is mandatory by the Student Senate that we impose a club membership fee. This year, the fee will be $60/per person. For collegiate teams, their main source of income is team dues which ranges anywhere from $60-$100 for the year. I think this is a good price to start off at. This fee helps us pay for the team boat and insurance in leasing it.
* FAILURE TO PAY COMPETITION/MEMBERSHIP FEES WILL RESULT IN NOT BEING ABLE TO SKI IN THE TOURNAMENT*
These membership fees cover you until December 31st of the year purchased. So if we purchase them in the spring, we are good to go for next fall as well.
Each tournament will have their own entry fee and team entry fee but that will be paid at the tournament itself along with the team release. (The Team Budget will pay for Team Entry Fees)
Here's how things work for the fall tournament:
Spring tournaments are usually local collegiate that host these. We are also able to host tournaments if the team desires to set one up.
As of now, RiverCity Waterski Team has offered to lease thier 2001 Mastercraft 19-skiier to the team. (Your team dues help pay for the insurance and maintenance of the boat.)
We must compete as much as possible to show the Student Senate that we are doing something to get the school's name out there. The more we promote and compete, the more money we will receive for next season! We are able to apply for a 'Special Request' for up to $1,00 for a special event/trip which we can discuss options for in the future.
Other collegiate teams go around to area businesses as well as sponsors such as Straight Line and Barefoot International. Straight Line is a nation-wide company that would supply equipment such as ropes, gloves, etc.
We just bought a bunch of equipment, but feel free to bring your own equipment if you have it! We want to make sure there is enough for everyone. Those of you who don't have their own, others do have a few boards that you could borrow.
