Minors busted at Chuckers

In one of the largest busts ever from a single Winona bar in one night, the  Winona police arrested 48 people Friday night.

According to the Winona Daily News the raid took place at Chucker’s Bar and Grill from 11:15 p.m. to closing. Within that time span the police arrested 46 people for underage drinking one person for serving them alcohol and another person for obstructing police.

Of those arrested, 34 were females and 14 were males; 16 were 18-year olds, 15 were 19-year-olds and 15 were 20-year-olds.

Police employed six full-time patrolmen and two reserve officers in the operation. Using an underage operative armed with someone else’s identification police tested Chucker’s door checks and serving policy. Officers also checked IDs of patrons.

The penalty for underage drinking is about $80 for the first offense. the fine for a second offense can be around $250 and/or several days in jail.

“The raid was due large in part to the rumors of many underagers gaining access to Chuckers,” Winona Police Department Police Chief Frank Pomeroy said. “Whether the drinking age is 19 or 21, our job is to strictly  enforce the laws.”
