Club Constitution: Cheerleading Team

Article I – Name

 

            The name of this organization shall be Winona State University Cheerleading

Team (referred to hereafter as “team”).

 

Article II – Purpose

 

A.    To promote school spirit, pride and good citizenship.

B.     To effectively lead a crowd in support of an athletic team or the university.

C.     Give students a fun way to be involved with the university.

 

Article III – Membership

 

A.    Membership requirements will be non-discriminatory and all persons will be treated in a fair and equitable manner in accordance with Minnesota Statute 363.  

B.     In order to join the team one must meet the requirements held by the current captains or coach such as stunting requirements, cheer requirements, tumbling requirements or dance requirements. Perspective members will be subjected to a tryout and judged based on their performance. Perspective members will be notified shortly after if they have made the team or not.

C.     Members are expected to uphold a 2.0 GPA. If a member is put on academic probation, they will have to meet with the current captains or coach and put together a plan of action.

D.    A member must attend all practices, games and events. Events include volunteer work, appearing at events (such as alumni events), and university pep-fests. If a member is unable to attend, they must notify the captain or coach at least three days in advance or they will be subject to discipline. If absence is a continual behavior, the member will receive a warning, and if the behavior continues, the member may be expelled from the team.  A member must also attend all practices with a good attitude giving the team 100%. If the captains or coach feel as if a member is letting the team down, they will be subject to discipline, a warning or expulsion. .

E.     Rules for expulsion:

a.       If a member has missed multiple events and been talked to about their absences and warned, they may be expelled.

b.      If a member is disrespectful to the team, they may be expelled.

c.       If a member is on academic probation, they may be expelled.

 

 

Article IV – Executive Board/Advisory Council/Officers, etc.

 

A.    Leadership nomination requirements will be non-discriminatory and all persons will be treated in a fair and equitable manner in accordance with Minnesota Statute 363.

B.     Leadership Positions: The captains will be responsible for the organization of the team. They will be responsible for running practices and games, controlling the budget, organizing other events such as Alumni events and Homecoming, attending ASO meetings, organizing volunteer events in order to promote community, ordering supplies and materials, being in contact with the team’s advisor, and anything else that relates to the team. The captains may delegate these roles; however this is up to their discretion.

C.     The procedure for the election of captains will be help to a vote. If there are enough qualified members, there should be a captain from the sophomore, junior and senior classes. A captain may hold their position as long as they are a member of the team. However, once a captain quits or takes time off, they loose their title. Elections for new captains will be held by the current captains and everyone on the team will be given an opportunity to vote. Anyone who has completed one season on the team may be eligible for captain.

 

Article V – Meetings

 

A.    The team will meet two to three times a week plus any games that fall during the week.  Extra practices may be called.

 

Article VI – Funding

 

  1. Dues for the team will be decided at the beginning of the season.
  2. The captains will decide the amount of the dues taking into consideration the needed supplies for the year (Example: t-shirts, shoes, shorts, etc.) If a member is unable to pay all of the dues at one time, they may set up a payment program with the captains. Also, members may organize fundraisers to raise additional funds.
  3. All funds will be held in an account in the WSU Business Office.
  4. In the event of the dissolution of the club, all funds will be returned to the Student Activities Fund Committee of Student Senate for re-appropriation.

 

Article VII – Amendment

           

A.    At any time a current team member may propose an amendment for the constitution.  .

B.     Approval of these changes will be brought before the team and put to a vote.

C.     The amended constitution will then go before the WSU Student Senate for ratification.

D.    The Winona State Cheerleading Constitution must be resubmitted for ratification to the WSU Student Senate at least every two years.

 

 

Article VIII – Advisor

 

A.    Kristin Schumacher

Student Affairs

B.     State the following Advisor duties:

a.       Maintain contact with club leadership.

b.      In conjunction with the responsible party from the club, track the club budget.

c.       Maintain current contact information with WSU Student Senate.
