SPRING TRYOUTS 2013! :)
***Held at the John Nett Center, corner of 7th and Lafayette***
We are happy to tell you that we will be having spring tryouts! They will take place on April 27th and 28th at the John Nett Center (address above) in the gymnastics room upstairs! We will update the website as soon as we know what time of day, but expect 9am to 4pm.
As we stated, times are still being finalized, so keep looking here for updates or changes! We will notify you immediately after tryouts if you have made the squads, for practices are ongoing and we will need to be ready. We ask that you refrain from asking questions directly after tryouts as to scoring. If you wish to know your scores, you may email us after a set date. This is just to ensure both the safety of your scores and because we will all meet as squads immediately after, leaving no time to discuss scores. Also, please note that we may call you after tryouts that day in the event that someone has chosen to drop the squad (this has happened in the past!), so please keep your phone on you after in case you are next on the list.
Judging sheets are most likely going to be changed, but you will be judged on jumps, cheer, dance, stunting, and tumbling. If you plan on trying out for competition, please know that YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE TUMBLING (standing backhandspring and running round off backhandspring MINIMUM). You must be able to do this ON YOUR OWN without a spot. We plan on having full team tumbling for competition, so if you do not have it now, please work hard over the summer so you can tryout in the fall!
As for squads, we have TWO squads: Football and Basketball/Competition. If you wish to do all of them, you may do so! But understand that basketball/competition is an all year commitment, whereas football is only for the fall semester. If you only wish to tryout for basketball and do not want to cheer competition, please let us know and we may be able to let you. You will also need to know that doing competition will have an upfront cost of at least $200 to pay for traveling fees. Football and basketball will have at least $100 to pay for warmups/bows. These fees will be due at the end of September (most likely) for football and competition/bb. If you need more time to come up with these fees, just let us know and we can make a payment plan with you.
As for squad numbers, we will most likely look to fill in our open slots. We usually look for aroung 18 for Football and 24 for Competition/Basketball. These are not set in stone, for if we have room for you, then we will take you! And we would love to have some more men on the squad as well, especially for competition!!! For competition, we will also be taking alternates, meaning you will be a part of the team but will not compete unless someone is injured (and this happens a lot more often than you think!). We will ask on your forms whether you are willing to take the responsibility of being an alternate, so please do so seriously. Many others would jump at the opportunity.
Plan on bringing your insurance card, cheer/tennis shoes, hair up, t-shirt and shorts, and your smile and spirit with you to tryouts! If you have any questions at all, please email the account! There is still information that is being decided, and please know that some of this may change so keep checking here for updates! If you can't make it to these tryouts, please let us know. You may be able to send us a tryout tape if you cannot make it.
If you do decide to send us a video, we request that it is of just you and your stunt group, not a performance of you that we have to pick out which one you are. We would need the video in hand by April 26th! You can also email it to the account or upload it privately to YouTube and send us a link. Just a reminder to everyone, if you really want to make the squads, we would recommend that you come to the actual tryout if at all possible. For more information, come see us at the Club Fair, which will be held within the first week of classes.
Thanks for your interest!
